A new meaning to transitions

source: Jim Tsinganos

Yoga is the perfect do-anywhere, serve-anyone discipline.  No props needed just a little insight on which pose can work it’s magic when stress is inappropriately bulging into a breakdown. People are even doing it on their surf boards… go figure! I recently read that the International Airport in San Francisco has converted an old storeroom into a ‘drop-in’ yoga room. It’s totally ‘bent’ and it has my stamp of approval! One of my quiet delights in life is being in transit in airports. I usually arrive an hour or two before I fly and really dig the imaginary bubble I enter that suspends me from reality. All I need to do is make sure I stay focused on my departure which last time was delayed by three hours. Annoyed… not really! I got to finish a book that I was only half way through. Would a yoga room work in my local airport? Not sure! But I love the fact that I can be waxed, massaged and drink enough wheatgrass to turn my insides into it’s own departure lounge. Adding yoga to the equation and I might never leave.

  1. Am completely with you on this – I love airports – one of the rare spaces in modern life where you have permission just to pause and wait. Ahhh..

  2. O yoga rooms in airports – I love that. Can’t wait for the day it’s in all classrooms & boardrooms. Am fairly new to yoga so aiming at being more bent. Loved connecting with you last week. x

  3. What a fabulous use of an old store room. I’d like to see a yoga/prayer room in all shopping centres in Australia, too. Like an ‘old-fashioned’ chapel.
